My fifth novel is proving slower than I thought. I'm now looking at end of April for finishing it. I live in hope!"
My lullaby picture book, DO YOU FEEL SLEEPY? is being published by Piccadilly Press in 2012 and I can't wait to see the first illustrations for it by Sophy Williams.
My short story OFF BY HEART will be published in the Sunday Express magazine on October 9th
Dear Mrs. Adèle,
we were in the classroom, the lesson was going on , when suddenly we heard a knock and entered Paola - our caretaker - with a package.
We immediately wanted to see what we the package contained ....... and, with great enthusiasm, we discovered that there were your books!
You can not imagine the mess we did for the joy!
Obviously we have already started reading "Rosa e il piccolo intruso ," and we must tell you: it's really beautiful!
Now we have to say goodbye to you, because we have our Philosophy for Children circle-time.
Goodbye and lots of thanks.
News
I haven't updated this section of the website in ages for which I apologize. October saw the publication of a picture book, illustrated by the wonderful Sophy Williams. It's called IT'S TIME
FOR BED and German and Finnish editions have also appeared.
QUERCUS BOOKS are going to publish my next novel for adults inthe spring of 2014. This is easily the best new of the year, and indeed the best news for several years. The book is called COVER YOUR EYES, and is along the lines of my other adult novels (relationships, families, memories and secrets from the past etc) but with a thread of the supernatural in it, too. I have a two-book deal and am about to start researching/writing the second novel very soon. This will be a bit of a departure, as it will be much more of a historical novel than any of my previous adult books. I am really excited about this and very much looking forward to working with my editor Jane Wood and meeting everyone at Quercus.
I'm looking forward to taking part in the Kids' Lit quiz at Bishop's Stortford College on February 7th as part of a team with Pauline Francis, Gill Lewis and Chris Priestley.
I'm again chairing the Judging Panel of the Lancashire Children's Book of the Year award and that will be good fun as usual, I'm quite sure.
I'm giving a seminar at the Federation of Children's Book Groups conference this year at Bury St Edmunds on March 23rd. Not sure yet what this will be about but I'm going to enjoy deciding!
On April 24th, I'll be in discussion with Jack Zipes, the US fairytale expert and academic at Anglia Ruskin University here in Cambridge. Mick Gowar invited me to take part in this and he'll be chairing the session which will be about fairytales.
I'm appearing at the Felixstowe festival on June 15th and will put up details when I know them.
One of my New Year's resolutions is to keep this news section a bit more up to date!
Happy New Year.
